Edward Jones & American Funds

What Edward Jones Got Right About American Funds

When I was 22 years old, I was hired by Edward Jones to be an advisor. It was April, 1977, and I was a month from graduating from college. I was extrememely fortunate to have been brought in by a gentleman by the name of Jim McKenzie, who had an office in Kearney, Nebraska. His kindness, patience, and brilliant client skills have never been forgotten. And his ability to help investors of all backgrounds understand the benefits of compounding as it related to making an investment in American Fund’s Investment Co. of America was arguably the best in the nation. As I approach the 49th anniversary of working in an industry that has given a lifetime of wonders to a young man who grew up in a small farming town half way between Denver and Omaha, I have to reflect on what a great opportunity it was.  Forever grateful Jim!
